Frequently Asked Questions Here are some of the most common questions
What is an electronic vignette or e-vignette and how does it differ from a common vignette?

The electronic vignette is a digital version of the vignette, which has replaced the vignette in the form of a sticker. Therefore, the e-vignette does not need to be stuck on the vehicle and must be removed at the end of the period of validity.

May I purchase an e-vignette ahead of time?

All varieties of e-vignettes are available for pre-purchase, meaning you can select a start date for validity that differs from the date of purchase.

How can I prolong the validity of my e-vignette?

Each e-vignette stands as an independent entity, marked by its designated date of commencement and expiration. According to the regulations, extending the validity is not an option. Upon the expiration of an e-vignette's validity, acquiring a fresh e-vignette becomes necessary, with its initiation date reset accordingly.

When purchasing an e-vignette, how should I input the vehicle registration plate number?

When entering the registration plate number of a vehicle registered in Slovenia, ensure that there are no spaces, dashes, or any other additional characters. The same formatting rule applies to registration plates that can be transferred between vehicles. Pay close attention to the regional code (e.g., LJ, KP, NM, KR, KK, SG, MB, GO, CE, MS, or PO) and the correct sequence of characters. A similar guideline applies to registration plate numbers from other countries, except for Austria and Germany. For Austrian and German plates, use a hyphen instead of the coat of arms.

I inadvertently entered the toll road without a valid e-vignette. How can I determine if I'll incur a fine?

Failure to possess a valid e-vignette while utilizing toll roads constitutes a violation of the Road Tolling Act, resulting in a penalty of EUR 300. The transgression will be addressed by authorized personnel from the Police, the Financial Administration, or Dars toll control. The commencement of proceedings for the violation falls under the jurisdiction of the designated official. Proceedings are instigated upon detection of the violation, either through recorded events with a technical device or, in specific instances, identification by a police officer, a Financial Administration controller, or a toll inspector. The perpetrator is informed through the issuance of a payment order dispatched via registered mail with acknowledgment of receipt, no later than one month following the commission of the violation. Typically, proceedings for a violation are initiated no later than 20 days from the date of the violation.

What measures can I take to avoid being fined even though I've committed an offense?

The response to any committed offense lies solely within the purview of the authorized official overseeing the procedure. Should you transgress by utilizing the toll road without a valid e-vignette, we strongly recommend promptly procuring an e-vignette corresponding to the registration number of the vehicle involved in the offense. Prior to issuing a payment order or during subsequent stages of reviewing a plea for judicial protection, the enforcing authority reserves the right to regard the purchase of the e-vignette as a mitigating factor.
